Bradlee-McIntyre House 2
When it was first moved, the house was considered a hazard. Most people thought it could not be saved, but the society rebuilt the building over a few decades and managed to preserve its beauty. People in the community of Longwood had donated pieces that have created a sense of home. Some structural components have been donated that were a part of the home during the years of the Bradlee's.
In 2021, Habitat for Humanity in Athens, Georgia, found a Washstand that was originally from The Bradlee-McIntyre House. This washstand was then reunited with the house on the 26th of June, 2021 after a ceremony. The washstand dates back to the earliest of the house’s days and was owned by the Bradlee family!
Rotten sides and window ledges were plaguing the house. In 2021 these house killers were replaced to keep the house pristine, along with a new coat of paint in 2023. Also added to The Bradlee-McIntyre House were the metal roof and gutters. The signature sign, facing SR 427, was added in 2024. The remaining projects were replaced with the upper composition roof with metal and removing rotted out sections on the front porch. The Historic Longwood Society wishes to complete the rest of the innovations in 2026 and 2027, funds needed.
The house now serves as a Museum now taking tours every Wednesdays and afternoons on Sundays. The house is a wonderfully preserved relic of the past that sends you back into the 1800’s.
