Clocktower Park

Previously, the clocktower area was occupied by a local supermarket.

Back in 1908, a J.N Allen grocery store popped up. The huge two-story structure was made for living and retail with many shops of its kind; the first floor was the retail section. The second floor was living space for the Allens’. Very tragically, the store caught fire on September 5th of 1930 and because of its irreversible damage it was torn down in the 1950's.

However in 1969 a new post office was set up in this spot, the placement of the new post office was perfect considering the moving cost wouldn't be large due to its close proxy of its original placement being on SR-427 also known as East Lake Avenue. The postmaster for this building was William Bryant, a local figure in Longwood.

The post office was well respected in the community and served till 1995 when they built a three times larger location in Florida Central Commerce Park. The original post office still stood but it was vacant until 2001 when it was torn down. Once torn down, the city built the clocktower as a welcoming entry to the historic district.
